Did you know that small business owners who invest in entrepreneurial training are more likely to increase revenue, secure capital, innovate and create a meaningful impact in their communities?

Our recent infographic, “Entrepreneurship Training,” examines the intricacies and benefits of training for small businesses.

How much importance do small business owners place on training?

When small business owners were asked how they would improve productivity in their business, the majority of them placed importance on training rather than other expenses. Among those surveyed:

  • 36% said they would seek ways to improve their skills
  • 32% would invest in new technologies
  • 28% would hire more employees

This shift toward training and improving employee skills improves the health of the business and sets it up for success.

Entrepreneurship and College

Over the last 30 years, the number of freshmen college students who want to be entrepreneurs has doubled and the education system has catered to the shift in interests. Degree offerings in entrepreneurship have grown by 5 times and courses in entrepreneurship have grown approximately 20-fold in the last 30 years.

Despite the students of today being more interested in entrepreneurship training within a college environment, most business owners do not have a 4-year college degree. In fact,

  • 5% did not complete high school
  • 20% graduated high school or received a G.E.D
  • 14% received an associate’s degree
  • 17% attended some college
  • 26% graduated college
  • 18% received a post-graduate degree

With only 44% of small business owners having a bachelor’s degree or higher, it’s clear a degree from a 4-year college or university is not the only thing that equates to entrepreneurial success.
