The CornerBazar was a pop-up throughout most of December in the Union Market District created to help socially conscious shoppers while supporting talented craftspeople and building community. The CornerBazar is now online but in dialog for further in-person pop-up's.
This immersive shopping experience was designed by event producer (and SCORE DC client) Marissa Sams and lifestyle guru and realtor Nya Alemayhu as a way to launch FOUND, an evolving collection of curated apparel, home goods, and other one-of-a-kind objects found from their travels around the world. The pop-up combines the friends' love of culture, fashion, and entrepreneurship by highlighting women and minority makers - a demographic which makes disproportionately less revenue than their counterparts.
Marissa and Nya hope to create a safe and dynamic space where they can amplify makers from around the globe through a retail experience designed to share and celebrate their stories. FOUND is a community, a place to gather, a cultural incubator where the collaborators aim to expand and reframe the narrative around fashion, luxury, and the experience of shopping.
The CornerBazar concept was featured on Channel 5 Fox News.
